Humans have long been obsessed with longer life. Over the past century public health improvements and medical developments have significantly increased the length of human life, almost doubling life expectancy for the average person.

Rather than celebrate this extraordinary achievement, many worry whether an aging society will bankrupt countries, destroy pensions, increase health costs and lead inevitably to a weaker economy.

Today’s episode features Lynda Gratton, Professor of Management Practice at the London Business School and fellow of the World Economic Forum, and Andrew Scott, Professor of Economics at London Business School and Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford University who previously taught at Harvard and London School of Economics. Together, Lynda and Andrew are the authors of the book The New Long Life: A Framework for Flourishing in a Changing World. We also welcome Alice de Lamaze, Senior Investment Manager at Pictet Asset Management, who focuses on our human strategy, and Derick Bader, Head of Marketing at Pictet Asset Management and Equity Partner of the Pictet Group, who moderates this conversation.

Lynda Gratton is Professor of Management Practice at the London Business School where she teaches an elective on the Future of Work and directs an executive program on Human Resource Strategy. Lynda is a fellow of the World Economic Forum, is ranked in the world's top 15 'Business Thinkers' by The Times, and was named best teacher at London Business School in 2015. With Andrew Scott, Lynda is the author of The 100-Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity.

Andrew Scott is Professor of Economics at London Business School, a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford University and the Center for Economic Policy Research having previously taught at Harvard and London School of Economics. He has served as an advisor on macroeconomics to a range of governments and central banks and was Non-Executive Director on the UK's Financial Services Authority. With Lynda Gratton, Andrew is the author of The 100-Year Life: Living and Working in an Age of Longevity.

Alice de Lamaze joined Pictet Asset Management in 2008 and is a Senior Investment Manager of Pictet Human, in the Thematic Equities team. She has over 20 years experience in global consumer equity research and portfolio management. She began her career at Blackrock Merrill Lynch Investment Managers in London in 2001 as an Equity Buy-Side Analyst, focusing on European consumer names, and as Portfolio Manager of the MLIIF European Fund. She was previously Portfolio Manager of the Pictet Nutrition fund (2018-2020) and of the Pictet Premium Brands fund (2011-2017) in the Thematic Equities team. Prior to moving to Geneva, she was a Senior Buy-Side analyst focused on Global Consumer Equities based in London for Pictet Asset Management. Alice is a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charterholder and holds the CFA Certificate in ESG Investing and a Specialised Master in Finance and Treasury from Ecole Supérieure de Commerce in Paris (ESCP).

Derick Bader joined Pictet Asset Management in Geneva in 2001. He is Head of Marketing & Products and a member of the Executive Committee since 2011. Derick was initially responsible for developing the institutional business in France and the French-speaking part of Switzerland, before focusing on the promotion of Pictet’s alternative strategies (single hedge funds and funds of hedge funds) from 2007. Before joining Pictet, Derick spent two years as Head of Business Development at Fitch-AMR, a subsidiary of Fitch Ratings. Prior to this, he worked for seven years in the asset management operations of Lazard in Paris, initially as an internal auditor and subsequently as an institutional sales officer. Derick holds an MBA in Finance from the University of Georgia in the United States and a BA from the Institut Supérieur du Commerce in Paris.
