Can photography encourage sustainability?

In today’s episode Renaud de Planta, Pictet’s Senior Managing Partner, explores the power of the image with Canadian photographer Edward Burtynsky, who has dedicated his life to documenting the impact of economies on the environment. This special episode is hosted by Isabelle von Ribbentrop, the Pictet Group’s Global Head of Branding, Advertising and Sponsoring.

Renaud de Planta has been Senior Managing Partner of the Pictet Group since 1 September 2019 and a Managing Partner of the Pictet Group since joining Pictet in 1998. He oversees Group Finance, Communications, Internal Audit and Tax departments. Renaud is also Chairman of Pictet Asset Management, the Pictet Group's institutional arm, having managed the division between 1998 and 2016. Previously, Renaud spent 12 years with UBS, where he held various management positions, ending as Head of Equity Derivatives at UBS Warburg in London. Renaud holds an MBA from the University of Chicago and a doctorate (PhD) in Financial Economics from the University of St. Gallen.

Edward Burtynsky is regarded as one of the world's most accomplished contemporary photographers and renowned for his sustained investigation of the “indelible human signature” on the planet, caused by incursions into the landscape on an industrial scale. Burtynsky’s large scale aerial photographs are part of more than sixty major museums’ collections, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum in New York.

Isabelle von Ribbentrop is Head of London Communications and Global Head of Branding, Advertising & Sponsoring. Her overall responsibilities include advertising, branding and corporate identity, film and photography, events advisory and strategic philanthropy, Isabelle has been instrumental in the development of the Prix Pictet photography award, which since creation in 2008 has become one of the world's most important arts prizes. She holds a BA Hons in History, Politics and Philosophy from the Humboldt University, Berlin and an MA in Imperial and Commonwealth History from King's College, London.
