César Pérez Ruiz shares his “3 on the 3rd” for August
This month, César Pérez Ruiz, Chief Investment Officer of PWM, shares his top 3 summer reading recommendations:
1. Handbook of Wise Interventions: How Social Psychology Can Help People Change by Gregory M. Walton and Alia J. Crum (editors). This book explores some of the research that has been done on how mindsets affect important outcomes in such domains as exercise, diet, and stress; and how they can be consciously and deliberately changed through intervention to increase physiological and psychological well-being.
2. Why Nations Fail: The Origins of Power, Prosperity, and Poverty by Daron Acemoglu and James A. Robinson. Written by two economists and first published 10 years ago, reflects on extensive primary research on both the theory of economic growth and African and Latin American economies, examining the reasons why economic inequality is so prevalent in today’s world.
3. Marco Polo’s The Travels. A fascinating account of Marco Polo’s 13th century travels around the world. I love this quote: “I did not tell half of what I saw, for I knew I would not be believed.”
