Pictet Group
Elizabeth Dillon
How does it feel to be the first Pictet CEO in the US, with the recent office opening in New York?
I'm immensely proud to work for a firm that’s 216-years old. Planting the flag in the US is an incredible honour for me and my colleagues.
Can you tell us about your personal background and your career?
I have always worked in finance and I've had the great privilege to work at some wonderful firms. I started at Merrill Lynch here in New York, then was offered a position with J.P. Morgan Private Bank. The last 20 years of my career have been spent at Pictet, first in Geneva, Switzerland where I got to know the firm and the culture, then in our London office for the next 16 years. I've been in New York since May 2021.
Why does diversity and inclusion matter to you?
I've assembled a small team of twelve that is 50-50 on a gender basis with six nationalities represented. Diversity is incredibly important. It's not about political correctness; it is a strategic imperative. With it comes diversity of thought, of background, and that is what makes you stronger.
As an equity partner of Pictet, why should diversity and inclusion matter to us as a firm?
Well, it should matter to everyone. It's what's going to bring great ideas. The world is diverse, and it's important that a firm mirrors its clients. Our clients are certainly diverse and we as a firm are becoming increasingly more diverse. I think that only makes us stronger for the future.
Why is the US an exciting market?
It's the largest market in the world. It is known for innovation, and that certainly holds true in the finance industry. It's incredibly dynamic and fast moving - you have to stay nimble. It's also a very friendly market, where people are looking to innovate and grow. If you make it here, you can make it anywhere.
Who has inspired you?
I find inspiration everywhere. The word that comes to mind when I look at people that inspire me is fearless. Even someone like Lady Gaga inspires me. I also love to cook, and Julia Child has brought me a great deal of inspiration because she also was quite fearless.
