Make an impact with philanthropy
In this episode, Genevieve Cua speaks to Anthony Gao, Head of Philanthropy Services Asia with Pictet Wealth Management, to discuss the evolving landscape of philanthropy in Asia.
Philanthropy has gained renewed attention globally, even in the face of crises like COVID-19, due to its demonstrated value in tackling global challenges. In Asia, families are motivated by the desire to build a legacy and unite during inter-generational transitions, while governments encourage philanthropic giving to address social and environmental issues.
The blurring of lines between business and philanthropy has led to significant trends in giving, such as the convergence of philanthropy and investment, collaborative giving, and the adoption of donor-advised funds. Asian philanthropists prioritize causes like education, health, poverty reduction, and are increasingly focusing on the environment and social equity, including gender equality.
Having a structure for giving is important for philanthropists, allowing them to strengthen their legacy, align their capital with their mission, and effectively manage their philanthropic efforts, with Singapore emerging as a favorable destination for philanthropic structures.
